Dissatisfied with the amount of time it took to force the AE Graph Editor handles to create a desired curve, I set out to create a customizable expression that could use math to perfectly execute the movement I had in mind.
I wanted this expression to quickly move content onto a screen, coast for a customizable rate, and then quickly whisk away that content. After sketching out the graph I needed and experimenting, I saw that power functions could be the base of that solution. From that base, I created a handy customizable function to whisk content of all sorts on and off a screen.
Below is a demo of the tool in action. I can swiftly alter parameters like the direction, rate of movement, and hold time of the moving layer.
